Description

Cy Lynch is a lifetime member of BetterInvesting (BI) and the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII), frequently presents on investing topics online and in person throughout the country. He has appeared in Smart Money and Business Week magazines and writes the “Growth Stock Outlook” column for BetterInvesting magazine. Cy also serves on the Better Investing Board of Directors. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, Barbara Koll and their three cats. Cy is a church pastor and enjoys singing tenor in the church choir. He will be presenting the following topics in depth at our annual Breakfast with the Champions Event 2019. We will have plenty of time for audience’s questions.

Getting Risk Right

Seeking maximum return while minimizing risk is the goal of most, if not all, investors. The problem is that most of what we are told about “risk” is wrong. Most pundits and investment professionals equate risk with volatility. Cy will first demonstrate that volatility is not the same as risk and consider alternative definitions of risk. We will then explore how volatility presents opportunity and how treating it as risk can harm your financial well being. You will learn about the wealth of information available on the Internet that can help investors build confidence in the stocks they own or are looking at. We will focus on information that companies provide on their websites that can help investors make their stock selection decisions.

Growth and Rethinking Stock Selection Guide Analysis

Cy will lead a discussion of how “growth” is one of the most used and misused words in an investor’s vocabulary. He will explain what growth is and show that increasing earnings per share often isn’t growth, and why “true” growth is a long-term investor’s best friend in determining your projections.

The Stock Selection Guide (SSG) has proven to be one of the best tools to focus long-term investors on what matters most when studying potential stock investments. But not all sections of the SSG are equally important. Cy will review SSG stock selection criteria (potential return, PE ratios, UD ratios, price zones) in depth and share how his use of these has evolved over more than 30 years of using the form. He will then facilitate discussion of which factors matter most and how each can best be used in evaluating stocks.
